If you are aware that Grand Island has a Creative District you are well ahead of most.  There has been a very active small group of people working behind the scenes revving things up, and they are ready to make themselves better known to the community.

Led by Sara Tall with Greater Grand Island Community Foundation (District Administrators) and Ryan Hand with Eakes Office Solutions, their team has been meeting regularly to bring this vision to life: “we envision a Creative District that embraces its vibrant cultural heritage and utilizes the arts to unite.”

Over the course of 2025 they have been focused on building the structure needed for a sustainable, long-term Creative District, including governance, funding, and strategic partnerships.  Those partnerships include 4th Street BID, Railside BID, the Greater Grand Island Community Foundation, Stuhr Museum, the City of Grand Island, Grow Grand Island, the Welcoming Initiative, GIAEDC and Chamber.

As 2025 closes out, they have secured funding for some new projects and have been collaborating with area schools on Youth Art Month (April) to showcase student artwork throughout district businesses.  Most recently, they have launched a new, more extensive website.  You will find it at https://www.gicreativedistrict.org/

As we roll into 2026, here are some things our Creative District is planning:

·       Promote and support creative events in the district, including the Global Roots Festival, the Mural Project, Calaveritas en la Cuatro, HEAR GI, and events hosted by area businesses, cultural groups and artists.

·       Expand outreach to invite community members, local businesses, artists, and cultural groups to join committees and help guide programming.

·       Deepen collaboration with area arts groups and the new Grand Island Public Arts Commission.

·       Install banners and signage to help identify and strengthen the Creative District’s presence.

Do you want to get involved?  Fill out the contact form on the new website to stay informed, volunteer, or join committees.  You can also support the work of the Creative District by making a donation through the Greater Grand Island Foundation at https://www.gicf.org/ (all donations are tax deductible).

Grow Grand Island commends the quiet work this diligent group of people have been doing.  As one of many engaged partners, we have seen their vision and recognize the value they have placed on building a strong foundation to maximize their ongoing impact.  The horizon looks bright.  It is time to shine!
